Transitioning from virtual to real controlling
Hey guys! I wanted to post an update about what's going on in my life right now and my recent inactivity on the ARTCC. As some of you (but not all) may know, I took a long leave of absence sometime last year in the middle of my S3/MTR training. This was in part from me abandoning university and my f...

Simultaneous Non-Precision Approaches
I was going over through some of the old S3 training material to keep some retention on the theoretical knowledge and I was wondering the following: Take for example you are working P80 and are providing radar services to two IFR Skyhawks, one being 123AB and 321CD, both headed to Hillsboro. 123AB w...

Re: Iron Mic Clean Sweep Attempt?
We've been getting Top 20 in all lists for the last weeks without an organized attempt for both SeaTac and PDX. I think we can do it! Sign me up.

Re: Quote Wall
This happened over teamspeak. I was on Portland Tower. SEA_CTR: Hey guys, Oakland Center just requested that I provide 20 mile separation for aircraft headed there. PDX_TWR [jokingly]: Why don't you provide 20 mile vertical separation? PDX_GND: Would they be required to contact Houston Space Center...

SEA_TWR: "Seattle Approach, Seattle Tower."
SEA_APP: "Go ahead."
SEA_TWR: "Yeah, uh. Do you know how to report a UFO?"

Re: APPROACH SCOPE CONFIGURATION
Cristobal, -snip- Hope this helps! Frank Frank, Your diagrams are really the saving grace here! I was originally using the East Flow Diagram in the Maps section of the website, but those are in a big need for updating as they still show some old arrivals into Portland. Thank you very much for the t...

Re: APPROACH SCOPE CONFIGURATION
Cristobal and made some alias commands to display both the diagrams and intersections when they were needed I would really wish to know how you did this? This sounds fascinating! APPROACH SCOPE CONFIGURATION
Hey all! I started my Portland Approach training not too long ago and I've been having some issues with my scope and its configuration. On the first session, Jerry helped me set up my scope with the necessary diagrams and fixes in VRC, but I felt it was too cluttered. On my second session, I took ou...

Re: PDC Question
Is there an alias command for those? I always find myself writing them up manually with the format presented in the Documents section, which kinda defeats the purpose of a clearance ment to be given on the go.
ZAN FNO
Most of you have probably heard about the new LOA with Anchorage. I noticed we don't have a support event set up for the FNO, which got me wondering -- are we expected to come and support ZAN with staffing up some of their (or ours, probably SeaTac?) airspace locations?
P80 Live?
Would be fun to have an event where we can staff up the entire P80 TRACON for VFR and IFR traffic all around. Troutdale, Hillsboro and Aurora don't get enough love and it'd not only be a great experience to have an entire sector controlled, but also would offer a great opportunity for newly certifie...

VFR Radar Operations
I've been studying the Seattle area documents and other pieces of relevant information for the process of checking out for Seattle Tower and a few questions have come up the back of my mind. SOP 003 states the following: iii. Certain towers will be given authority to use radar procedures to separate...

vSTARS' Tower View Function
If you use vSTARS 1.1 you might or mightn't know of a particularly neat feature it offers when used in conjunction with the vPilot client and your flight simulator of choice (I use Flight Simulator X and it works for me, not quite sure if it works with P3D or xPlane). Using the .startproxy command i...

VFR Crossfire
I'm not quite up to date on the events the ARTCC is currently planning, but it'd be fun having a VFR event a la Boston ARTCC's Regional Circuit, having full staffing between two airports to provide services for both participating and non-participating aircraft. This would be a great opportunity to p...
