VATUSA Notification 51417-A

Post by Aaron Schwartz » Sun May 14, 2017 2:29 pm

Here is a NOTAM issued by VATUSA3 about 'Climb Via':

This is a notification of recent changes made to the VATUSA Basic ATC/S1 Reference Handbook and CBT. This notification is available to view via CBT under the Updates Section of the CBT's: https://www.vatusa.net/cbt

This notification addresses new procedures to use with regards to Climb Via Sid Phraseology and to notify you that these changes have been updated in the official VATUSA training materials.

The changes mentioned in the notification directly affect the material made in VATUSA JO-7110.601 CHANGE 1 which was effective May 1, 2017.

These changes/updates are as a direct result of FAA document 7110.65W Change 3 that was released on April 27, 2017

New SID Phraseology:

If a SID has a published top altitude with published altitude restrictions:

Use “Climb via SID.”

If a SID has a published top altitude with published altitude restrictions but you want the aircraft to climb to a different altitude:

Use “Maintain XXXX”.

If a SID has a published top altitude with no published altitude restrictions:

Use “Maintain XXXX.”

If a SID has no published top altitude but has published altitude restrictions:

Use “Climb via SID except maintain (altitude)”.
- this affects most of the SIDs out of KSEA and KPDX.

If a SID has no published top altitude and no published altitude restrictions:

Use “Maintain XXXX”.
