The VATSIM Seattle ARTCC is currently seeking Instructors who will provide compelling training capability in support of the New Seattle Virtual Air Traffic Control Training function. This is an Internal Position Opening (Only Members of ZSE ARTCC May Apply)

Summary:

Instructors provide instruction to students in air traffic control procedures in several areas including theory and the VATSIM environment. Training is conducted utilizing one-on-one or one-on-small group settings on Discord, using VATSIM live-network environment. Staff Instructors schedule and document training sessions with students, grade examination corrections, and conduct Over The Shoulder (OTS) examinations in accordance with the published rating guidelines and OTS criteria.

 

Duties:

* Work with a student in learning air traffic control procedures, both general and local, in theory, or live-network environment

* Document training sessions using our web-based tracking system

* Evaluate students for promotion using VATUSA policies/procedures

* Provide additional/advanced training as directed by the Training Administrator, ATM or DATM

* Work with ARTCC management on other tasks as requested

* Maintain Seattle staff controlling requirement of at least 15 hrs per month online and conduct at least 6 training sessions each month.

 

Required Skills/Attributes:

* Must be an active member of the network in good standing

* Currently hold a rating of Controller (C1) or higher

* Capable of working well in a team-oriented environment

* Strong knowledge of the United States and VATSIM ATC system

* Strong knowledge of FAA Order 7110.65

* Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

* Able to work with students in a calm and respectful manner, including some students which may prove to be difficult

 

Desired Skills/Attributes:

* Teaching/Education experience (on or off VATSIM)

* Leadership, managerial, or supervisory experience

* Prior Mentor or Instructor experience

* Real-world aviation experience

* Familiarity with the Seattle ARTCC training program/system and ATC Procedures

 

Time Commitment:

Should be able to conduct a minimum of 6 training sessions per month (average training session is 1-2 hours), and provide support to students via forums/email. Instructors are also expected to comply with the requirements set forth in APS_001 for minimum controlling hour requirements.
